Retool Needs Promo Art And Music

Retool Logo

I am looking for a concept artist (or any 2D artist) that can create promo art and a composer to create music for Retool. If you are interested in either of the positions, then read on what I require and how to apply.

So let’s get the basic information out of the way. Both of these positions are:

  • Paid
  • Do not require prior experience
  • Work from anywhere

Requirements
What I require in both of these positions are:

  • That you are at least 18 years old
  • You have a bank account in England or are happy receiving money via PayPal (my bank charges me a fee every time I send money internationally, so if you are not based in England, I will be paying you via PayPal)
  • You having good communication skills
  • Available to work (work will start in February when all 3D art has been completed and integrated into the game)
  • Willing to make changes to your work (this is nothing to do with your talent) without making me feel like I am asking for a favor

What I Require for Art
From the artist, I will require one piece of promotional art that will be used on posters and banners. I would like the piece of art to be in a PSD file and all the different art pieces are on different layers (background, art, text, etc.). This is in case I ever need to change the layout/size of the poster; I will be able to do this if it is PSD format without destroying the piece of work. This is quite important to me so if you can’t do this, let me know ASAP in the application.

Below are images of the art style I would like for the promotional art.

Journey Promo Art

I will also require the design of five icons that will be used for achievements. If you do not know how to design icons, then let me know in the email. You will not be penalized for this. I haven’t decided on the design on the icons, but they will most likely be simple shapes.

What I Require for Music
From the composer, I will require three looped tracks. The tracks will be around 1-2 minutes long. One track will be used for the main menu and the other two tracks will be used for the levels. The level tracks will play depending on the situation. To explain this in more detail, I will require you to first watch the video below (don’t worry, it is less than a minute long but you might want to turn up your speakers to hear the music).

Now, in the video you would have noticed that the music changes when the player is hacking on the computer. That is something I want to do with the two tracks for the level, which I have already coded. The first level music track will be playing normally in the background while the second level music track will be muted. When the player hacks into a computer, I will automatically turn down the volume of the first level music track (not muted) and turn up the volume of the second level music track.

Now I just need the music tracks. The feeling I am trying to create with the music is mysterious journey on an alien planet. The music has to be slow and calm (it’s a puzzle game, so the music can’t be distracting for the player). When the player is hacking, I want the second level music track to be a bit faster, with some kind of glitch effects. I want the music to be a bit tenser.

I know my descriptions of the type of music I want aren’t the best so I have included examples below of what I mean. The Journey track is a good example, but it needs a bit more of sci-fi/futuristic feel to it. ‘all the gauntlets ii’ is a good, but not the best, example of what I mean by more tense music. If I find any more examples, I will post them below. If you require any more examples or details of what kind of music I need, then drop me an email.

Applying
If you are applying for either position, then send an email to lovepreet@hut90.com with the following information:

  • A sample of your work that is similar to what I require for Retool (this can be previous work for another project)
  • How much you are charging for the work in GBP (provide me with a total and a break down of the cost (i.e. poster is £xxx, icons are £xxx, 1 track is £xxx, etc.))
  • How long it took you to complete your work (I got some deadlines that I am trying to achieve)

The deadline for applications is January 15 2015. Any one that sends me an email without the required information or after the deadline date will not be considered and their email deleted.
