Retool January Update

Below are all the updates that happened in January. Believe me when I say this, but I am very proud of what I have accomplished this month.

Character Models WIP
First update this month was about the characters. The 3D artist for the characters was nearing completion with the meshes, so I thought it would be nice to see a comparison between my character models compared to the artist’s character models. Enjoy.

The following week I created new skyboxes, in addition to other less important things. I wasn’t sure whether to keep the new skyboxes or return to having a solid color.

Characters and Level Modular Kit Implemented
After that week I implemented all of the level modular kit and the characters. The game already started to look much better than before just by updating the assets. This also gave me the chance to start working on the lighting in the game. After spending couple of days tinkering with it, I decided to go with an orangey-bluey color. It gave the feeling of calmness and mystery at the same time, or it could just be me. I also worked a little on the animations but not sure how I felt about it.

Electronic Meshes Implemented and Level Design Started
After that week I received the final meshes for the electronics so I implemented them in the game. The game looked a lot more alive now. I also started working on the level design. I designed all the levels on paper first, and then recreated them in the game. Most ended up being tweaked when I recreated them in the game, as it was hard to judge gameplay without trying the levels. My goal for Retool will be to create 20 levels in the final game. Other than that, I also completed other small tasks that week, such as updating the character animations, creating the electronic animations, ragdolls, etc. They made the game feel much more alive.

The last thing I did this month was creating animations for the electronics and finishing the designs of all twenty levels. The levels still needed to be tweaked, props needed to be added, and levels to be tested, but as of now, they were all working levels.
