Welcome to April’s monthly update for Akuto: Mad World. This month I moved the online matchmaking away from Steam and started to host it on my own servers. This has fixed many gameplay and online issues, specifically with the lobby. I have also updated the GUI for all of the menus, apart from the controls menu. This means the game looks better and handles better than a month ago.
You can read on to see what major updates were released in April, with a full list of updates following that. At the bottom of this post, you will find what I am planning for next month. And remember, if you like the game, recommend it to your friends or leave us a review.
Akuto: Mad World is now available from Steam, Humble Store, and itch.io. Join us on our Discord server to talk more about Akuto: Mad World and our other games.
New Content in April
The online mode is in a much more stable state that allows players to join, play, and leave matches without any major issues. There are still bugs in the online mode that I will be fixing as they come up.
The new GUI in the game makes all the menus feel coherent, which is something the old menus did not do. They should be also more readable at smaller and larger screens, and easier to understand for the players.
The player selection and level selection screens are now in 3D, making them easier to understand on what character a player has chosen and the level you will be playing.
Fixes and Updates in April
- A-K-U-T-O minigame – every time you die, you only lose the last letter you collected, not all the letters
- Lobby issue fixed – anyone can leave a lobby without everyone else getting removed from the lobby
- Matchmaking updated – DRM free players can play online with Steam players
- Updated invulnerability particles – now you know that you are invulnerable when you spawn
- New GUI (except for the controls menu)
Plans for May
My goal for next month is to complete the work that I did not get to complete this month, which was primarily polishing the online mode and adding in the chat system. After that, I am going to work on polishing rest of the game by fixing some of the little bugs I have found that have started to irritate me. If I somehow manage to finish all that next month, I am going to start looking into an online GIF sharing feature.
