Last week Bungie announced that the Destiny Beta was open to the public. I didn’t hesitate one second to start my Xbox 360 and start downloading the beta. Overall, the game is very impressive and I enjoyed every second of playing it. Trying out the beta even made me reconsider to purchase Destiny. Below are some of my views on what I liked and disliked about the game.
This is just a quick announcement post to say that one day I will continue working on Nameless. For now the game is indefinitely on hold. Over the past few months, I have started to lose more and more interest in the game. This could be because I have not chosen a direction to take the game in or because I keep adding unnecessary features. Whatever the reason might be, I have decided that for the foreseeable future I am not going to work on Nameless.
One day I hope to continue working on Nameless. If not I would like to implement some of the features I had planned with the game into another game. I am sorry if this news disappoints anyone (I expect it doesn’t). However, the good news is that my first ever finished game, ADROIT, is out now! Therefore, you can take that as consolation prize, I guess.
Justified
Boyd: “A man who speaks out of both sides of his mouth deserves to have it permanently shut.”
Ava: “Who said that?”
Boyd: “Boyd Crowder.”
Justified is one of the best TV series I have ever watched. Justified premiered in 2010 but I started watching it in 2013. It is a show about Raylan Givens (portrayed by Timothy Olyphant), a federal marshal in Harlan, Kentucky. Unlike other TV shows where all the focus is on the main character, Justified focus on all the characters, including the villains.
The thing I like most about Justified is the how every character has their own mini-story that is intertwined with the main story of the TV series. The writing is brilliant as is the setting. It feels like present day but one that is much older. It’s like how the Wild West would be in the present day.
I have finally watched all of season one to four on Netflix. Season 5 has just finished airing in the US. Sadly, Amazon got the rights to show Season 5 and Season 6 (the final season). This means I will have to get Amazon Prime to finish watching this brilliant show.
ADROIT: Prototype To Implementation
During the past couple of few weeks whilst I was working on Nameless, I decided to start working on another game. This game was the recently released ADROIT. The game was going to be a small game to sort-of celebrate a year since I started game development. I decided to make this game as I had not completed one game yet from prototype to final release (I don’t count games made during game jams).
ADROIT Is Out Today!
ADROIT is an endless vertical runner where the player has to dodge spikes at high speeds. Scrape along the sides, squeeze between spikes and dodge spikes at the last millisecond.
ADROIT is out today! I have been working on ADROIT for the past couple of weeks, whilst also continuing to work on Nameless. ADROIT is the first ever game I have made from beginning to completion. It is a casual game released for the Android platform. It is available to download from Google Play and Amazon Appstore. You can find screenshots, videos and press kits on the official ADROIT page. Did I mention it was free?
ADROIT is also my game for July 2014 for One Game A Month
Nameless Development Log 03
This is the third development log update on my Nameless game. In this video I talk about all the updates since my last development log video. This includes the change in the game direction, change of art style, and what I am working on now for the game. I also state the release window for the game (it is not any time soon).
If you got any questions, feedback or ideas about the game then leave a comment or hit me up on Twitter.
Low Rez Jam 2014
This month was Low Rez Jam 2014 where the goal was to create a game with a maximum screen resolution of 32×32 pixels. The game could be about anything so the only limitation was my mind. I decided to create a game called Pixel Tournament 2014.
Raspberry Pi Camera Timelapse
So I bought a Raspberry Pi camera module couple of weeks back and created some time-lapses of my garden in the back. The video above shows you one of the time-lapses I captured via the Raspberry Pi camera. I thought this was going to be fairly difficult but it turned out to be simple. So in this post I will tell you how to create your own time-lapse using your Raspberry Pi (this post will most likely be useful for other beginners like me).
Subconsciously Solving My Problems
This is just a small post for everyone who has difficulty solving arithmetic (or any other) problems. Instead of trying to work on the problem to solve it, try doing another mindless task. This can be anything from eating, having a shower or even sleeping. This way while you are consciously doing the other mindless tasks, your brain will subconsciously work on the problem and solve it (or at least lead you in the right direction).
Ludum Dare 48 #29
Over the last weekend was Ludum Dare #29. This was the first time that I participated in Ludum Dare. Ludum Dare happens every four months where the goal is to create a game in 48 hours. The theme for this Ludum Dare was ‘Beneath The Surface’. I created a game called Beneath The Game.
