Akuto: Mad World August Update

Akuto: Mad World - Blue Death

Welcome to August’s monthly update for Akuto: Mad World. This month I coded all the power-ups and specials in the game, and also released a few of the power-ups into the wild. I also managed to overhaul most of the bullets VFX and SFX, but sadly did not get the chance to release them. I decided to put the profile system on the backburner for now whilst I work on the levels and decide how I want the online to work.

This might not sound like a lot of work, and that is partly true. One is because I spent a lot of time designing weapons and levels this month, and two, my PC stopped working correctly so I had to re-install Windows and all my software again.

You can read on to see what major updates were released in August, with a full list of updates following that. At the bottom of this post, you will find what I am planning for next month. And remember, if you like the game, recommend it to your friends or leave us a review.

Akuto: Mad World is now available from Steam, Humble Store, and itch.io. Join me on my Discord server to talk more about Akuto: Mad World and my other games.

New Content in August
Power-Ups
Players get a random power-up every time they walk into a power-up pick-up. The power-ups in the game are all different, and some will require players to press the power-up button to activate, whilst others will activate on collection. Most power-ups can only be used once, while some are an exception to this rule.

Once players die, they lose their power-up, whether they have used it or not.

Special
Specials are similar to power-ups, and they are also assigned randomly every time a player walks into a special pick-up. The main difference between them is that specials are not lost on death, and are only lost once a player uses them in a match.

Fixes and Updates in August

  • Power-up pickups added to all levels
  • All power-ups created
  • All specials created

Plans for September
Next month I plan on designing most levels, and hopefully having a few out. I am also going to start looking at what direction I want to take the online mode, whether there is going to be a specific game mode only, or several different game modes online.
