There are numerous different services that offer online advertising. These can be very effective way to showcase the business’ product to potential customers. The product can be anything from innovative footwear to videogames. In this blog I will explain why online advertisement is effective, what online advertising services there are currently available and my personal opinion on which advertisement service is the best.
Printing Ourselves Into The Future
I have been recently researching about 3D printers at my current job. Some of the things I learned from this research were quite interesting so I decided that I am going to post some of my research on my blog. I will start this blog post explaining what 3D printing is, how it works, where it has been used and my views on three different 3D printers I had used in the past.
No More One Game A Month
As you may remember that at the beginning of this year, I decided to make around twelve games. Well nine games in and I have decided that I am going to stop creating one game a month.
GameDev.net Jam
I have completed my game for the GameDev.net Jam. If you had been following the development of the game, you will know that I have been working on it this past week. I am quite proud of how the game turned out. The only thing I am sad is that I did not get a chance to implement an online leaderboard system.
The goal in Toys In Space is to retrieve the stolen toys by pulling them in to your spaceship by using your magnet. This is done by controlling different aspects of your spaceship separately.
Toys In Space is also my game for September 2014 for One Game A Month.
I have also embedded a video at the bottom of this post to display the gameplay. This is mainly for people who might not understand on how to play the game.
You can download and play Toys In Space from itch.io.
The Week Of Awesome II
This month I have decided to participate in the GameDev.net’s ‘The Week of Awesome II‘. This is a game development competition (game jam). I decided to create this post to state that I will be participating in this competition. I will be writing about my progress during the competition on my journal on GameDev.net. This blog post will also serve as my development log to make it easier for people to follow my progress. Everything what I talk about on my journal will also be updated on here.
Ordinary Life
I have continued using Blender since I enjoyed using it the last time. This is the first time I created a model without following any tutorial. I did use techniques I learned from tutorials I had followed in the past. I created this scene for the reddit Weekly Low Poly Challenge. The theme for Week 5 was ‘Ordinary Life’.
Games I Have Completed
I was recently looking through my backlog of games I still have to complete (or even start in some cases). It was slowly but surely growing over the past few years. I decided it was time to take action. From this day on, I am going to start managing my time when I play games. This will allow me to spend my time more resourcefully whilst I try to complete games. I will do this by tracking all the games I have completed and all the games I own and still have to complete.
I count a game as completed if it meets any of the following criteria:
- Completing all main missions on any difficulty
- Completing one season
- Playing all online game modes
- Achieving a certain rank online
- Completing the game on any format
Not all of the criteria will be valid for every type of game. Some people will argue with my list of criteria and say it does not count as a game being completed. However, this list of criteria is for my backlog. Everyone’s criteria will differ for what counts as completing a game. This is my personal backlog that I am trying to complete to a level that will satisfy me. I feel satisfied if I meet any of the criteria listed above.
You can check out the games I have completed on Google Sheets.
GameBoy Jam 3
This month was GameBoy Jam 3. The rules are similar to the last GameBoy Jam I participated in, which were to create a GameBoy themed game. In this game jam, I created a game called Tower Climb.
Music Creating Attempts Using PixiTracker
For this month’s Experiment Day, I tried to make some music using PixiTracker. PixiTracker is a simple tool to create musical sketches, chip tunes and sound experiments. Yet I did not find it simple to use. This had more to do with me lacking musical knowledge than the tool itself. In this blog post, you will find my three attempts at creating music.
My First Attempts Using Blender
I have recently started spending one day each month to learn and experiment with something I am interested in and have not done before. I call this day ‘Experiment Day’. Last month was learning to create low poly art in Blender.
These images are the result of my work that day. I used online tutorials to create both images. The image above was created by following CGI Tuts+ tutorial and the image below was created by following PigArt tutorial.
I am not sure what I will experiment with this month. I will post whatever I create on that day on my blog.
