Akuto: Mad World Will Be At Norwich Gaming Festival 2018

Norwich Gaming Festival 2018

This Friday and Saturday (June 1 and June 2), I will be showcasing Akuto: Mad World at Norwich Gaming Festival.

This will probably be one of the last times I will showcase the game before the final release. I might also showcase an experimental version of the game for a few hours on Saturday to get feedback on what people think.

As usual, you will be able to play the game, buy merchandise, and buy Steam keys for a discount.

Come say hi and play the game.

Akuto: Mad World May Update

Akuto: Mad World - Pier 2 level

Welcome to May’s monthly update for Akuto: Mad World. This month I did not get much work on the game completed as I would have liked, due to handling the business side of game development. Depending on how the next few weeks ago, Akuto: Mad World could become a completely different game when it is completed.

You can read on to see what major updates were released in May, with a full list of updates following that. At the bottom of this post, you will find what I am planning for next month. And remember, if you like the game, recommend it to your friends or leave us a review.

Akuto: Mad World is now available from Steam, Humble Store, and itch.io. Join us on our Discord server to talk more about Akuto: Mad World and our other games.

Tips for Showcasing Your Game

Akuto: Mad World at GDC 2017 Xbox Lobby Bar

I spent most of last year showcasing Akuto: Mad World at many different gaming events, and during that time I learnt many things. Below is a little guide that can help your game stand out from the crowd. Note, these tips worked for me, and they might work for you or they might not.

Akuto: Mad World April Update

Akuto: Mad World - Player and Level Select Screens

Welcome to April’s monthly update for Akuto: Mad World. This month I moved the online matchmaking away from Steam and started to host it on my own servers. This has fixed many gameplay and online issues, specifically with the lobby. I have also updated the GUI for all of the menus, apart from the controls menu. This means the game looks better and handles better than a month ago.

You can read on to see what major updates were released in April, with a full list of updates following that. At the bottom of this post, you will find what I am planning for next month. And remember, if you like the game, recommend it to your friends or leave us a review.

Akuto: Mad World March Update

Akuto: Mad World - Quarry Kills

Welcome to March’s monthly update for Akuto: Mad World. This month I had to go to TWO long conferences/workshops, so work was spent mainly on the server-side for the online mode of Akuto: Mad World. I also went to GDC (Game Developers Conference) to showcase the game at the Xbox Lobby Bar. On the other days, I had some meetings and had a chance to speak to other developers on what they used for online mode. In the end, I decided to stick with P2P for the online mode, and host the matchmaking system on my own server.

Akuto: Mad World Will Be At GDC 2018

I’m too lazy to write a new copy for this post so I am just going to copy the post from last year and make minor changes to it.

Good news, everyone! I will be showing Akuto: Mad World at GDC (Game Developers Conference). Again. Not just that, I will be showing it as part of Microsoft’s Xbox Lobby Bar. Again. This means you get to play the game on Xbox One! Again!

This will be the first second time that you can play the game on a console platform. GDC 2018 will be in San Francisco (like every other year) from March 19 until March 23, and I will be there the whole week. This will be my first second time going as well, so it will be a great experience for me. Come say hi, play the game, and, if you think you are up to the challenge, try to beat me. Sadly, since last year, I have been defeated at my own game so I am no longer undefeated.

Akuto: Mad World February Update

Akuto: Mad World - Acme Corporation Killing Spree

Welcome to February’s monthly update for Akuto: Mad World. This month I didn’t get much updates out for Akuto as I would have liked. The main reason for this is that I relocated Hut 90 to the USA. Yes, that’s correct. Hut 90 is now officially a USA company. Most of the paperwork is completed now, which means I can get back to completing Akuto: Mad World.

I have managed to complete all the online levels and am now going to look at fixing all the online bugs and updating the matchmaking system. What I want to do is have the matchmaking system not rely on Steam, so that non-Steam players can play online as well. Maybe even try having cross-platform online. But this won’t happen next month, but the month ever more likely. This is because I have two big events next month where I will be working more on the business side of Hut 90 instead of the game development side.

You can read on to see what major updates were released in February, with a full list of updates following that. At the bottom of this post, you will find what I am planning for next month. And remember, if you like the game, recommend it to your friends or leave us a review.

Akuto: Mad World January Update

Akuto: Mad World - Robot Factory

Welcome to January’s monthly update for Akuto: Mad World. I didn’t get a chance to add in much content this much as I have been busy working on making all the levels work in online mode. So far, I have got 6 out of 10 levels working for online, with the goal of getting the remaining 4 finished in February. There was a big reason why not much was added in Akuto: Mad World this month, but I will tell that reason in next month’s dev log once everything is finalized.

Year End List: 2017

New Year 2018

For the fifth year in a row, it is time for my end of year list.

This year has been lackluster, even though my game, Akuto: Mad World, has achieved quite a lot of recognition and funding, I feel I didn’t accomplish as much as I could this year. I didn’t read as many books as I would have liked, didn’t play as many games as I would have wanted, and I didn’t get to draw or write as much as I should have.

On the other hand, it was a great year for music and TV shows. Both entertainments put out products that I really enjoyed all year round.

Next year, I am going to try to release more content, no matter how good or bad it might turn out to be. Hopefully it will turn out more good than bad.

Now, on to my list…
